The outset of the Greek New Wave music is pin-pointed in 1978, when Parthenogenesis were formed by Albertos Laivys (drums), George Makridis (bass & vocals), Kostas Pothoulakis (guitar & vocals) and Takis Polychronopoulos (vocals). It was the first time that a Greek band was introducing this new wave sound to the audience.

Babies on Fire

They were three friends from Veroia, Greece that formed in 1984 a band named “Tebelides tis Eforis Kyladas” (The Loafers of the Fertile Valley); Stelios ‘Salvador’ Papaioannou (vocals, bass), George Papaioannou (drums), and Banny (guitar) who was later replaced by Paylos Paylidis.

Stress were formed in 1980 at Argyroulopi, Athens-Greece, and they constituted the first Greek punk band with anti-authoritarian lyrics written in Greek. The 16 year old boys’ first live performance was given in the same year at Chalkida, Greece, during an excursion organized by the Technical Lyceum of Argyroupoli.
The first line-up of the band was: Luis Kondoulis (guitar, vocals), Kostas ‘Kon’ Drivas (bass, vocals) and Johnny Kafadaris (drums, vocals). Under this line-up Stress wrote their first song entitled “Athens Burning”, and it was influenced by the 1980’s severe occurrences that took place in Athens during the celebrations regarding the 6 years from the Greek military Junta’s fall.

Grover created in 1981 in Thessaloniki, with original line up:
In November 1982 they recorded their first  demo with Mimis Burmas, one of  the most important guitarists of the greek rock scene. He passed away in 1985  at the age of 24, because of a car accident.
Moot Point

In June 1984, Agamemnon (bass) and George (drums) were met with Vassilis (guitar) for early rehearsals at their studio, a semi-cellar, based at Kalamaria Thessaloniki. A few months later, they gave their first live concert under the name Moot Point and played their own compositions, as well as some arrangements.
