The songwriter Nickolas Asimos was born on August 20, 1949 in Thessaloniki.  His real name was Nickolas Asimopoulos. His parents were from Kozani, where Nickolas lived his childhood and finished school.  As a teenager he was involved in sports. He was distinguished in high jump, taking the third place in the school races of Macedonia in 1965, and in football. Indeed, a formal proposal was made to him by Kozani football club, but the deal eventually foundered. 

At eighteen he went to Thessaloniki to study in the Modern Greek Studies Department of Philosophical School. The original goal was to pass the Journalism Department, a job which he amateur exercised alongside his studies. In an article in a newspaper from Thessaloniki he first used the pseudonym Asimos and has since established it. At the same time, he was also involved in theater. He made a student theatrical workshop, playing Aristophanes, Menander, Moliere.

Then he bought his first guitar. Almost from his first High School year he begun writing verses and poems, but he never had shown any appeal towards music. Self-taught musician began performances in small boîte. Undisciplined, ignored all warnings of censorship for his songs and his words. He was arrested and detained in Security Police. When he left, his identity was lost. He never issued one, only 18 years later, when he succeeded to issue an identification in the name ‘Asimos’, with the 'clarification' in the identity religion declaration field: Without religion.

In 1973, without a diploma, went to Athens. He appeared in several boîte in Plaka, in collaboration with singers, actors and composers, presenting a program with music, texts, sketches and documents against the status quo: "Fifth Season", "11th Commandment", "Tracks", "Musical Theatre of Poverty" "Gossip". Among his colleagues then, were many famous people: Gkaifylias, Trantalis, Panyperis, Finikis, Mouzakitis, Spyropoulos etc.

 

In 1975 he released his first songs on a 45rpm disc (Romios-Mechanism). Alongside he began issuing "illegal" cassettes, which was recorded and handled by himself in Propylaea, Polytechnic School, Exarchia, Monastiraki, Lycabettus. He created the «Exarchia Square Band» and participated in concerts, sociopolitical events, music and theater bands, street theater and various other events. Occasionally, he collaborated with many artists and bands.

In 1977 he was imprisoned for two months, along with five other publishers - authors, with an official category of "prominent personalities who adversely affect the community." In 1981 he wrote the book "Seeking Krokanthropous" and in 1982 released his first major album, entitled "Say it again", containing four songs in which Vasilis Papakonstantinou and Haroula Alexiou participated.

About a year later he opened a shop in Kallidromiou Street at Exarheia. It was the 'Preparation Area" as he named it, and his residence, as this was his home. There he wrote, composed songs, sold books, toys, makeshift jewelry manufactured by his friends, his own cassettes mainly, lamps, pottery, old cards and more.

In 1987 he was driven by force in a psychotherapy clinic and later on in Korydallos prison, with the accusation of rape. He was released on bail, but failed to overcome his great sorrow for this unfounded accusation, that was never proved. The pending trial, along with his other problems that were numerous, piled up inside him ... After two unsuccessful suicide attempts he was found hanged in his house on March 17, 1988. 

After his death, two more of his albums were released, "The Lantern of Diogenes" with the participation of Sotiria Leonardou and "Giousouroum – The Worlds gone bust", with the participation of Vassilis Papakonstantinou.
